Californians have been staying home, staying safe since March 19, 2020. That’s a long time to go without seeing our family, friends, hairdressers, barbers and our church family. I hope you are all well, staying safe and are healthy.

As the State begins to phase in the lifting certain restrictions, I can’t help but wonder, “What will our worship services look like once we are able to open?” While we, at UMCPS, don't know when it will be deemed safe to reopen, rest assured that Pastor Jane, church leaders and the Worship Team are working together to find the answers.

We have been working on how best to incorporate the guidelines so we can worship safely in our sanctuary. There are many questions on how we do that. We have a few answers. We have found that we can safely accommodate about 65-70 people, total. We have purchased hand sanitizing stations. UMCPS face masks are being made by our own church seamstresses. We have had to remove the bibles, hymnals and all paper in the pews. We had not planned to do this and they will be returned when permitted. The good news is we have our new video/TV screens up and working that will greatly enhance our worship experience. We also plan on still having an online presence when we can return to church so we can stay in touch with those unable to join us in person.

There is a lot for us yet to learn and lots to do. As we continue to learn and implement, we also want to remember Wesley’s “Three Little Rules: Do no harm; Do good; Walk humbly with God”, as well as supporting our core values: Embrace Hospitality, Nurture Spirituality, Serve Hope and Play.

I’ll be keeping in touch with you to keep you informed, as we go. In the meantime, please stay safe, stay healthy and keep laughter and joy in your hearts.

Blessings,

Melinda McInerney, Lay Leader

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
